About
The Nations of War website has been developing for the past 4 years. It started as a small hobby of story writing, and has grown to include fantasy world development and constructed languages.
It is interesting to see how concepts refine themselves over time. My early ideas for Saeoth (initially called the Amethyst Kindred) involved their magical ability to manipulate shadows into tangible forms. As my ideas for Saeoth grew, I decided not to use this concept, for it didn’t fit the direction I wanted to take that nation. However, when I started creating content for Dhalkenor, this concept emerged again, and I was able to plug shadow-manipulation right into their identity.
The story of Fynyr has always been central to my work. He began as a character in a short story over 6 years ago, and was one of the first concepts to be brought in to Nations of War. I enjoy writing about how he struggles with his destiny, and how he deals with being the only true immortal being in a world of mortals. This flows into how he deals with outliving all his family and friends, and how he feels about being labelled a "hero".
During 2010, I hope to see more development take place in the areas of story writing and language development. The 2 languages I started are still not much further than a list of sounds and a dictionary of a handful of words. I look forward to having some new short stories added to some of the other nations, building up a rich culture for all the fictitious societies that I have started.
