3D projects often put forward two challenges: realism and polygon limits. I enjoy finding an acceptable middle ground in my 3d models, making objects detailed enough to not see many edges, but simple enough to load quickly and efficiently.

Autodesk Maya is my 3D tool of choice, but I also have some experience in Blender and 3DStudio Max.
